I spoke to a friend for a long time today. While we talked I got my ironing done, clothes hung up, folded a load of clothes, painted a piece that goes on a post on the deck, painted two baskets and prepared to mop. Nothing like multi-tasking big time. I should have bought stock in headphones.

I personally think any math over the 6th grade is over rated. I just need enough to do my checkbook and that is on my computer now. Yesterday, I covered a math class. I was a warm body there. I can call roll and that is about all. The kids would ask me for help and all I could say was that I had it 35 years ago, if it is the same thing. I have to work hard not to put my prejudice off on the students.

I, and my number three child, second son drove to Memphis, TN to a wedding this weekend. We visited with a great aunt on the way. She is now in an assisted living home but her mind is wonderful. We had a great time talking and catching up on all her family. The wedding was beautiful. I was made to feel like a celebrity for going to the trouble to come. This family used to live in Cartersville. They were great friends and very supportive when Nick was getting his transplant. We couldn’t have done it without them.

I worked three hours on Thursday evening and spent most of Friday afternoon trying to get the printer to pick up the signal from my laptop. After reading and re-reading directions I finally got it to work. I’m not a techenical person so I was proud of myself. I was really proud not to have to pay a computer tech $60 to talk to me about the problem. I still could have used the time spent work on the print issue writing.

I can’t wait to get home to see what is broken today. Two weeks ago it was the clothes washer. I have a new/used one of those now. Last week it was my laptop and the car. Neither of those are the right things to go down. Car fixed $$$$ and laptop repaired by a friend of Drew’s $. Yesterday, our wireless Internet went out. We had to buy a new router. I already know my printer is not working because I have to get it on the new system. Maybe Zach will have torn off a door before I make it home by 4.

His jaw is over grown on one side and he is going to have to have surgery to fix it. Braces are necessary before surgery to pull the teeth out. They will remain on during surgery, and for a few months afterwards. The hope is to do the surgery in December or January. I wonder now much the boy is suppose to take. He seems resigned to having it done. He is the one that made the decision to do so.

We were debating whether or not certain people we know would be considered good role models. A number of them Drew named I didn’t think were good role models. His argument was that they were good with the kids they coached or taught. I couldn’t disagree that they interacted well with kids but I disagreed based on their life styles being a poor example. We didn’t reach an agreement. Maybe in some ways you can be a good role model while at the same time in others your not.

Nick is taking a full load this semester. I’m afraid he will really have to work at being a student. Biology with a lab will make him work in that class alone. He has learned that he studies better if he goes to his room where there is no ESPN. Surprise, surprise.
