We did it!

Monday, August 31st, 2009

We made it through the big day. The weather was great, the wedding party showed up on time, and fun was had by all. The bride was beautiful. She was pleased by the look of the church. The preacher was wonderful. I really feel like they are married.  I wasn’t nervous and enjoyed the day. Many people are sad when their children marry but that is the way things should naturally go.

The reception went off without a hitch, and Mary Beth was happy with the look and the food. We heard many compliments.

The only really bad part of the day was that on my way home my transmission went out in my car. Andy asked if I had any money left. I just laughed at him. I’ll put up pictures when I get my act together. If you are reading this and you made it to the wedding, thanks for coming. We love you all!

I want to part by saying— RSVPs are important. Send them in. More on that subject for another day.

First Wedding Melt Down

My dress arrived in time. It was way to big. A good thing since too small would never do, and that was a real possibility. Mom pinned it and worked on it Sunday. Drove the hour to my house on Monday for me to try it on. Came again to my house yesterday. It looked great-except for it was too big in the neckline. Necklines and sleeves are hard to change and I was going to try to live with the way it fit. The only problem was that I didn’t think I could. Not wanting Mom to have to do more I told her it was alright, I’d wear it as it was. She kept pushing me about it and I finally told her in a heated non-adult moment I hated the neckline. We worked out a way to get me in the jacket and take up the neck.  She is driving down here again this afternoon for me to try it on once again. I hope I think I look great. Buying and getting what I wanted to wear to the wedding has been as much fun as I thought it would be. Which amounted to no fun.

No report on Nick yet. He is going to call the coordinators and find out this afternoon.

We are counting down

I attended Mary Beth’s last wedding party before the big day yesterday. My sister-in-law had a luncheon for the bridesmaids. It was very nice, food was great and the weather perfect. I’m about partied out, but the big show is only days away. I’m subbing today and my mother wondered why. I seem to get more done if I get out of the house. I finished the last dress yesterday, hemmed three pairs of pants. Mother is coming this afternoon to bring my suit she has altered. I hope it works out . At this point I guess it doesn’t matter. Mary Beth thinks everyone is going to be looking at her anyway.

Nick has blood work tomorrow. I hope it comes back great. I told him the other day to just stay well for two weeks and let me get past this wedding. So far so good. He looks wonderful and is strong enough that he wants to wrestle me all the time now.

On being nice

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

I have a friend, Ginger that is the picture beside the word nice in the dictionary. I’m called a number of adjectives when spoken about (some kind and some not so kind) but nice is not one of them. In the last couple of days there has been a number of people that have been nice to me.

Karen called and offered to help me sew. That was extra nice.

Melinda emailed me and offered to come help me to get ready for the wedding. She lives near Memphis, TN. I think she is already being nice by attending the wedding from that distance.

Mary Beth needs a cake knife. I called and asked my mother to get her one at a jewelry store in Rome. She agreed. That was nice because it took one more thing off me.

We never know what it means to the other person for us to be nice to them. I’m going to work on having my picture next to Ginger, Karen, Melinda and Mom.

Counting down

Well, the count down to the May wedding of the year is on. In 13 days Mary Beth will walk down the aisle. Yesterday, I had a Tea for all the people who have been great enough to give Mary Beth a shower. I had 25 people at my house. A good time was had by all. Today, I have five tuxs to hem and 5 dresses to altar. Last minute stuff has to go to florist and a count  to the reception must go in by the end of the week. On top of all this I’ve managed to get a summer cold. I hope it is all gone by the end of next week.

This is the first week in about 10 that Nick hasn’t had to go to have blood work done. He starts school on Wednesday. He is looking forward to having something to do.
