Walking with the Dinosaurs

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Thursday night Nick and I went down to the Gwinnett Center to see the show Walking with the Dinosaurs. Carol Burnside, a writing friend’s son, Jason was in the show. Nick and I really enjoyed the show. There were a lot of special effects and the dinos were huge. They were all to scale except one which was too big to be because it wouldn’t fit into a building. Jason has a physically demanding part. He is a baby and has to wear a 100 pound costume and manipulate the movements of the head and the tail, while running across the floor. It was impressive. I encourage you to go see the show if you get a chance. Jason took up back stage after the show. Nick was impressed that I knew someone that could do such a thing. We got to see the dinos up close. It was unreal the amount of detail that went into each of them. The eyes even move.

Thought to Ponder

In  the largest study on the health of living kidney donors, researchers give the all clear. Tracking 3,700 people who had donated a kidney since 1963, they found that donors lived just as long as non-donors, and were even less likely than people generally to end up needing dialysis or a kidney transplant (in part because their kidney function had been checked carefully prior to donation.)

I’m going to be interviewed on www.blogtalkradio/thefamilyfocus.com today. Check it out and see what you think. Nick and I are going to the Gwinnett Center to see Walking with the Dinosaurs tonight. My friend Carol Burnside’s son is in the show. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens. From what I understand you have to be very physically fit to be one of the performers. I’m glad we won’t have to fight the rain and flood on the direction we have to go.

Busy Days

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

Nick’s report last Wednesday was great. He had 131,000 platelets. Almost a normal amount. He was released from the hematologist. Yea!!! Nick is finally getting good reports all around. It has been over a year since that was the case.

Last Thursday, I spoke to a group at the Cherokee County Library in Centre, Alabama at lunch time and talked about Nick’s New Heart. They were a wonderful and a very attentive group. There was a woman there who had received a heart transplant three years ago. I think I made new friend. She really appreciates being alive.

Friday, I worked and took care of a science class. We watched part of the O.J. Simpson trial as part of the forensics classes. It was interesting to review that time. The students didn’t remember it, but I did-well.

Saturday I attend the Georgia Romance Writers meeting in Atlanta. I had to be there early for a meeting about our conference that is coming up in two weeks. The conferences and the meeting always make we want to go home and write. I always enjoy the day.

Saturday evening Mary Beth, Mother and I drove to Ashville, NC to see the Baltimore House. We went to the Baltimore Inn for tea. Mary Beth had given me the trip as a thank you for doing her wedding. We had a great time and tea was wonderful. But we did it all in the pouring rain. It rained on us all the way up there, all the way back and when we got home it rained all day Monday. The Baltimore is always worth seeing.

Rainy Wednesday

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

Nick and I are making the drive to Atlanta again today. Always fun in the rain. But we need the rain so I guess I shouldn’t complain. We will be see Dr. Abshire about the platelet count. This will be our last visit with him because in is moving to Wisconsin. He is a nice guy and we will miss him. I also have to stop by the Cath lab and autograph a copy of Nick’s New Heart. One of the nurses is giving a book to a friend. I hope Nick’s count looks good.
