Writing around Soccer

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

My job this afternoon is to watch Spain play Portugal and textNick, who is in class, what is happening. I will be returning a favor. I was at a meeting Saturday afternoon during the US game and he let me know what was happening. In fact, it became important that he did. The editor speaking at the meeting asked if anyone was keeping up with the game and I told her I was. She said if I let her know what was going on that she would critique ten pages and add more as the game progressed. I ended up with twenty pages. Pretty exciting stuff. Especially since I wanted to get my work in front of her.

Exercise

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

I’ve started walking again this week. It has been months since I’ve gotten much exercise. It shows and I don’t feel as well as I could if I get more exercise. I will have to say that I hurt. Just carrying extra weigh around and walking makes my joints ache. The down side to writing is that you sit a lot. I’ve got to counteract that and move an equal amount of time. Pretty weather helps me want to get outside and do.

Write In and the Race

Monday, April 26th, 2010

Based on the title you might think these two unrelated things go together. They don’t. One is about me on Saturday and the other is about two of my boys on Sunday.

Saturday I drove an hour to one of my writing friend’s house for a Write In. This is when a group of writers get together and do nothing but write. I got two chapters edited, a blog post written, and a movie review done. I spent from 9AM until 11PM in a chair. I felt successful. I enjoyed the time with friends that I don’t see except at writing meetings which doesn’t allow much time to really get to know someone outside of just talking about writing.  I spent the night and drove home in time to make church.

Now for the race. Drew and Nick bought tickets to the Talladega Race. They left at 10PM Saturday night in the pouring rain. They slept in Nick’s stationwagan, and cooked out steak and eggs for breakfast. They enjoyed the race. When they told me their plans I said, “You’re going to get mugged sleeping in the parking lot and be picked up by woman with one tooth.” Nothing like that happened thank goodness.

End of the Editing

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

I came to ”The End” again today. I’ve finally reached the end of my major edits on my medical romance. I have to read through a couple of more times before I send it out to my critique partners. This book is the first romance I wrote. I did it four years ago. The great thing about editing it is that I can at least tell that I’ve become a better writer. I’ve had to make a lot of changes. It is better now, I just hope good enough to buy.

Day off

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

What is it about having more time that makes us waste it? When I’m the busiest I seem to get more done. I had the day off yesterday and didn’t make use of it like I should. I did get about five new pages of work completed but that is nothing like what I could have gotten done.

The other day I came home from work and my oldest was on the sofa. I asked what he was doing and he informed me that it was his day off and he wasn’t doing anything. On my days off that usually isn’t the case. I almost always have something that needs to be done.

I guess after yesterday he and I weren’t really too far apart on our idea of a day off.
